Thoughts on the Canadian Federal Election

I personally think it's exrtremely important as a young person to participate in the voting process. I want my opinions and needs going into adulthood to be heard, and the first step is to vote, make a choice, and know what you want or need from a government by participating and seeking out information.  As far as my knowledge of this federal election goes, I haven't been following as much as I would like to. This is my third year voting and I am not changing the party I have voted for, I will vote NDP again.I think that the parties overall platform and goals for the country and the government are what best fit my individual needs, and the things I would like to see change in the government. I also really like the parties leader, Jack Layton is a really kind and intelligent man and I think he displays that most of the time in interviews and candidate speeches. I like his political point of view, and the integrity he maintains throughout his campaigns. The issues I think I would like to see addressed by the Federal Party Leaders in this election are more family doctors trained and available, a look into tuition costs and how to make it more manageable for lower income families, welfare and unemployement regulations reviewed and possibly a raise in the amount given, and finally some drastic changes in this countries effort to preserve our environemtal well being.

  1. I have heard many good things about Jack Layton. One thing I know about is his opposition to lowering taxes promised by liberals and conservatives. As much as I would love lower taxes, I don't think in the current situations in canada can afford any less tax rates. It's great that he is speaking honestly about his promises, instead of making broken ones.

  2. Your Points are valid, and I can understand where you are coming from. However, I view voting for NDP as almost a wasted vote. Both the Conservative and Liberal Parties have +30% each. This leaves NDP to have almost no support as other parties fight for the remaining votes. I like how you're optimistic, but at the same time I'm shrouded with doubt of NDP gaining majority.
